The DeYoung Family Zoo

I really wanted to go to the zoo and see some black bears. So we went to the zoo in Wallace, Michigan on Monday with Marissa, Grandma JoAnne, Grandpa Bob, Dad, Dan, and Aunt Patty. We saw a lot of endangered and non-endangered animals there. The first place we went was the reptile building. Reptiles are cold blooded animals, that have scales, and a back bone called a vertebrate. Reptiles also lay eggs like birds, amphibians, and insects. It was called the reptile building, even though they a few mammals in there. Mammals are warm blooded animals that give live birth, witch means the don't lay eggs. But a platypus lays eggs, but is a mammal. Isn't that unusual? Mammals also have hair. Anyway, we human beings are mammals.

Now first in the reptile building I saw a snake. It was HUGE and long! How would you like to see a snake like that. next I saw a turtle and a small alligator. They were in the same tank. I actually thought they were awesome. Next I saw a fox. Can you believe that?! So when we got out of the reptile building, we got to hold some animals. The first thing I held was a spider monkey. It was very cute. But the second thing I got to hold was another monkey. It was very cute like the spider monkey. and guess what else I got to hold. It was a endangered tiger! Can you believe that?! Then after that, we went to the barn where I got to pet a pig. Now I am a pig's predator, but I should treat the pig nicely and barely eat bacon. I also fed a goat and a lama. It was great and I loved it, but then it was time to go. Then guess what, I saw a bear like I wanted!

Hi Jackboy,

You seem to know alot about animals. Can you tell me anything about Manatees? I swam with them once in Florida but I'm not sure if they're a fish or a mammal.

Thanks
Kevin

I am amazed at the pictures and all of the animals you have been able to see this summer! What a great way to spend your time off school. Will you write anything about your Disney Cruise?

Manatees are mammals that swim under water for a long time. That is just because they are marine mammals. They are also endangered.

Hi Mom,

You went on the Disney Cruise with me. We had a very good time there. It was better than Animal Kingdom, althought Animal Kingdom was fun. What was your favorite thing on the cruise? My favorite thing was the Oceaneir Lab.
